Sophia Institute Press published a book, Father Amorth: My Battle Against Satan by Fr. Gabrielle Amorth with Elisabeth’s Fezzi.

You can imagine that reminders about the reality of devils are scary for us. Exorcisms are probably the most effective ways to remind us. This exorcist had spent decades doing exorcisms. To put a ball park number, he performed well over 10,000 exorcisms.
But rest assured, today, we’ll be given a consolation by Father Amorth. In the book, he states that, “a person is never sent a burden greater than he can sustain.”
This is a great consolation to me as I recently experienced a loss that challenged my faith, trust in the Lord, and my meaning/purpose in life. As I ponder this statement, it doesn’t mean we don’t receive burdens that ARE great. It does say that we just won’t receive them GREATER than we can bear.
In the book, Fr. Amorth, gives a Biblical example of this. He provides parallels between Mary and Abraham. For both of them, they both had faith and therefore experienced miraculous births. For Abraham, he had a son late in life with a sterile wife. For Mary, it was for her to have a son as a virgin!
Another parallel, Fr. Amorth provides, is the death of their sons. Abraham was asked to kill his son, but as we know the story, God stops him. For Mary, she was told ahead of time that her Son would be killed.
But Mary’s faith was greater (according to Fr. Amorth) so her Son actually was killed before her eyes. I can’t imagine the suffering she went through. Abraham, on the other hand, did not see his son die and never did. Perhaps because that would be much more than Abraham could bear.
Praise be to God for this. My mind recently has gone to places where my life could get harder and even more unbearable. But I can be reassured that it won’t be more than I can handle (even though it could be incredibly hard).
Thank you, Fr. Amorth for saying,
”no one has a burden that is beyond his strength.”
